January Services 2012

3rd
We were requested to launch at 07:30 to assist a 92' Dutch Barge that had lost all but one of its mooring lines, from its berth alongside Wades pontoon in bembridge harbour.
Once inside the harbour it was established that others were in the process of re connecting the lines and there was little we could do.
We returned to station at 08:05

November Services 2011

21st

We launched at 12:24 to assist a 8.5metre RIB that had suffered steering failure 20miles south of St Catherines point.
The RIB was towed into Portsmouth Harbour where repairs could be carried out and the lifeboat returned to station at 16:00.

October Services 2011

5th

Both lifeboats were launched after reports of a person was believed to have waded into the water sandown bay.
Arriving on-scene it was established that the person was safe and well at home, both boats returned to station.

1st

The ALB was launched at 15:30 to assist a 28ft yacht that had suffered machinery failure half a mile SW of Horsesand Fort.
The casualty was located and towed back to Chichester Harbour and then handed over to Chichester Harbour Patrol wh

September Services 2011

23rd

The ILB was launched to 21:00 to assist two climbers that had abseiled over Culver Cliff and were cut off by the tide.The two were brought back to the station and handed over to the local coastguards.

 

2nd

The ILB was launched at 22:00 after a yacht had reported to Solent coastguard that they believed they had seen a liferaft drifting in foggy conditions about a mile north of the lifeboat station.
On launching ILB made best speed to the last known position

August Services 2011

28th

The ALB launched at 23:10 to assist with a medivac off the cruise liner "Crown Princess" that had returned to the Solent after departing Southampton earlier this evening.
The rendezvous took place to the WSW of Gilkicker Point and the patient was transfered to the lifeboat and taken into the Camber Docks then handed over to the ambulance crew.

The ALB launched at 14:40 to assist a 36' yacht with 5 POB that had broadcast a Mayday after its steering ja

29th

The ILB was launched at 16:25 to a becalmed sailing vessel north of St Helens fort. 

 

20th

The ILB was launched at 21:50 after two people were cut of by the tide at the base of Culver Cliff.

June Services 2011

25th
The ALB was launched at 09:51 to a trimaran that was taking part in the Round the Island Race and unfortunately had capsized off St Catherine’s; the crew were rescued by a RIB and landed ashore.
The sea conditions made for a lively race and the lifeboat assisted a number of yachts throughout the day and returned to station at 15:30 before being tasked again at 16:40 to take over the tow from Yarmouth lifeboat of the upturned vessel.

22nd

We were requested to launch by Solent MRCC after reports were received that a Red Flare was sighted coming from the vicinity of Priory Bay.

April Services 2011

25th
The ILB was launched at 20:10 when reports were received that a speed boat with three people on board was broken down in Priory Bay. Arriving on scene the ILB passed a towline and towed the boat into Bembridge harbour.

March Services 2011

26th
We were requested to launch by Solent Coastguard to assist the 9 metre yacht “EPPI 2” with 2 POB that had picked up a plastic bag around the sail drive propeller which seriously hampered their speed between the east and west bound shipping lanes 32 mile south west of Bembridge.
On launching the lifeboat made best speed arriving just on the hour to find the casualty motoring north at 4 knots in a reduced visibility, the lifeboat was positioned alongside and the skipper asked what assistance he required given
