17th November

RNLB Alfred Albert William launched in wet and windy conditions (NE F5-6) at about 17:10 this evening to locate and assist a 21ft angling boat that had reported that it had lost all power having prop wrapped on its anchor warp in the vicinity of the Nab Tower with 2 people on board.

In the event they were located (with some difficulty) at least 2 miles north of the Nab using a combination of DF & a flashing torch.  After assessing the situation and the condition of the crew on board, a tow was set up and the boat was towed into Langstone Harbour and dropped off on the Hayling Ferry pier.  The ALB then returned to Bembridge.  However, an immediate recovery was not possible due to the significant NE'erly swell that had developed with the incoming tide.  They moored up on the buoy off the Lifeboat Station in the hope that conditions would improve as the tide dropped.  Although still quite lumpy a very successful recovery was subsequently made at about 22:15.
