The Tamar Class Lifeboat "Alfred Albert Williams" was officially placed on service at 22:00hrs on Wednesday 20th October 2010 after the Depty Divisional Inspectors exercise and will officially be known now as Bembridge Lifeboat
We launched at 18:28 at the request of Solent MRCC after the spoken words Mayday were received stating that a 20ft speedboat had hit an submerged object to the east of St Catherine’s point.
On route Solent gave us a Datum point to start an expanding square search, with the first heading of 270°, and a track spacing of ½ mile, the visibility was down to around ½ a mile sometimes less with a moderate sea.
We were requested to launch by Solent MRSC after a member of the public had reported that two small sailing dinghies were in difficulties off Seaview, the local coastguard had been dispatched to spring vale road and confirmed that assistance was required.
